There are special reasons Mans Lumber has been around four generations and plans on going into the fifth. They are all about family, customer service, community, and personal relationships that their great grandfather Nicholas August Mans began to build back in 1900.
We continue to have working relationships with generational family contractors that our fathers and grandfathers worked with before us.

Education and training programs are required for the many long term employees of Mans. This is to insure the customer receives the most up to date information, trends and new products available.
The owners or the five partners as Chris mentioned, are family members and all grew up in the Downriver area. Doug, Jim, Anna, Pete, and Chris have all worked hard to carry the family’s values to employees and customers alike.
“The business has prospered for many reasons.” Chris continues, “It’s not only about the highest quality of product, but just as important the one-on-one expertise that’s shared with every customer, whether a business contractor, a new home buyer, or a do-it-yourselfer.”
The family’s work ethic, knowledge, and experience cover a wide range of designing and building. They’re glad to give their recommendations of outside contractors to their customers if it isn’t a service they offer. Mans specializes in custom designed kitchens, baths, decks and a variety of trim work. They offer an abundance of choices, experienced suggestions on designs, and quality products you may need for whatever project you are presently doing. Mans sales department will graciously work with you and your budget.
When it comes to decks they are the number one Trex dealer in the Midwest. If it’s natural lumber you’re after, they have the highest quality decay resistant Cedar, and plenty in stock.
The talents and skills from years of knowledge and experience can reproduce just about any custom wood article or maybe recreate and match the workmanship of a historical wood piece that has been lost or ruined and needs replacement.
Commitment is a loaded word in this family and one they take pride in. On-time deliveries, quick return on estimates, fair bidding practices, they promise to give you, the customer, the educational project details before selling you any product or package and guarantee an answer to any lumber or wood question you may have. They’re known to carry many hard to find materials that other stores don’t stock.
Besides the Trenton lumber yard, Mans also own and operate another location in Canton that sits on 18 acres at Michigan Ave. and Beck Rd. This establishment has an operating mill shop on the property where specialized custom doors and mouldings are designed and built.
The newest addition to the Mans family legacy is an impressive showroom in Birmingham, specializing in kitchen, bath, and interior trim.
Chris says, “We continue to look for opportunities to serve our growing communities by listening and being a hands-on company.”
Mans reiterates the importance of being involved with the community. They do this by sponsoring events in several locations. Presently, they work with local Rotary clubs, schools and boosters, and go above and beyond to participate in local activities.
“I’m so grateful for being part of this community.” Chris continued, “And also for all our customers past and present who are loyal to purchasing their supplies from a local business and have allowed Mans to be a part of their lives and projects.”
