Nursing and rehabilitation center Belle Fountain is a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 5-star facility – and the only one Downriver to currently receive that rating. The establishment has been a 5-star facility for the past five years. As a staple in the rehabilitation community Downriver, Belle Fountain carries a 98 percent guest and family satisfaction rate, an average length of stay of 11 days, and leading-edge respiratory care.
Behind every great nursing facility is a great staff. Our friendly, caring, and knowledgeable staff creates a positive, healing environment for the body, mind, and soul.
Chris Verhulst, LPN, NHA
The Belle Fountain staff includes a full-time respiratory therapist, who assists guests with COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and other respiratory issues. The facility’s high-flow humidified oxygen is able to improve oxygenation, reduce respiratory rates, improve lung volumes, and enhance patient comfort and tolerance. Altogether, these efforts help reduce the chance of hospital readmission and duration of stay.
Belle Fountain also provides 24-hour-a-day skilled nursing services, short-term rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, IV therapy, and pain management. The establishment also offers orthopedic, cardiac, stroke, and wound assistance. The orthopedic help includes recovery from surgeries and fractures of the hip, knee, back, ankle, foot, shoulder, and arm, and the cardiac help includes assistance with CHF, stents, CABG, atrial fib, and pacemakers. “The therapy team [members] at Belle Fountain are truly rehab specialists,” Verhulst says.
The team at Belle Fountain has over a century of combined experience, with training and education including Doctorates of Physical Therapy and Masters, Bachelors, and Associate degrees. Team members also have training and certifications in both Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) and Vestibular Certification for certain conditions that cause balance issues.
Aside from the state-of-the-art therapy gym, guests are able to tend to the wheelchair-accessible Belle Gardens through Belle Fountain’s Gardening Club. Guests can plant and tend to vegetables all throughout the summer.
“As the ‘fruits of our labor’ produce, our guests, along with the life enrichment team, will be preparing special menu items and snacks for all to enjoy,” Verhulst says. Fried green tomatoes, cucumber salads, and much more come from the Belle Gardens.
Belle Fountain also offers wi-fi, television, telephones, newspaper delivery, climate control rooms, heated spa-like showers, and window views for guests. “Our team approach to each individual maximizes functional outcomes,” Verhulst explains.
Usually, guests who stay at Belle Fountain have heard about the establishment by word of mouth because of the positive view of the services throughout the community. “You can stop by our therapy gym anytime and will feel the upbeat energetic atmosphere,” Verhulst says. “[Our staff is] simply the best.”
Guests’ raving testimonials throughout the years are extensive, but they include praise such as:
