The vehicles of this transportation company escort clients to gala events such as weddings, concerts, and bachelor/bachelorette parties. “We do it all,” says owner Jim Musick.
“After 47 years, I still have my part-time job,” jokes Jim Musick, owner of Messer Limousine. Musick started with the company as a 13-year-old working part time to help maintain the fleet of cars. He eventually worked his way up to driver, and finally, in the late 90s, partnered with Thomas Messer, who had founded the business in 1953.
The company’s vehicles escort clients to gala events such as weddings, concerts, and bachelor and bachelorette parties. “We do it all,” Musick says. Among the trips that stand out most, Musick lists the time he personally chauffeured Elvis Presley from Metro Airport to the Pontchartrain Hotel. “He had a large entourage with him,” Musick remembers, “but no one else was allowed to talk to Elvis.” On another occasion, he drove Ava Gabor around the Downriver area. “There was a pig named Arnold on Gabor’s show, Green Acres,” Musick muses. “The pig’s trainer lived in Wyandotte, and he and Ava had a great reunion.”
For anyone interested in renting a limousine, Musick offers a few pieces of advice. “Make sure the company is fully insured and has a certificate of authority from the state,” he says. “That way, you know you’re dealing with a reputable company.” He adds that it’s also wise to look at the vehicle beforehand.
Jim Musick and his wife, Mary, were both born and raised in the Downriver area. They live in Southgate and have three daughters: Rachel, Emily and Kerri; and three grandchildren: Jackson, Lucas and Nora.
