Biz Profile: United Churches Credit Union

We have a full array of loan products including auto loans, boat loans, recreational vehicles, and motorcycles.”

United Churches Credit Union of Taylor has no shortage of services, which include savings, checking, and IRA accounts along with certificates of deposit. “We have a full array of loan products including auto loans, boat loans, recreational vehicles, and motorcycles,” says CEO Susan Smith. “We offer fixed rate and variable rate home equity loans, home improvement loans, and personal loans.”

This year United Churches Credit Union introduced a new loan product called the “payday bridge” loan. “It is a much more affordable alternative to other payday lending products out in the market,” explains Smith.

And the services don’t stop there. Smith says her credit union offers a Visa credit card with no annual fee. “Members can purchase Visa gift cards and Visa TravelMoney reloadable cards here at the credit union,” she says. “We also sell postage stamps, accept water bills, and offer notary service to our members for a small fee.”

United Churches Credit Union was chartered in March 1957 and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Smith has been with the credit union for 30 years, and her assistant manager has worked there for over 20 years.

Smith adds, “This credit union is unique in that we are a faith-based financial institution. Our field of membership consists of 26 area churches representing various denominations. We serve the parishioners and family members of these congregations. I believe that is what sets us apart from any other financial institution.”
