“I truly loved what I did … watching patients respond positively to the health care I provided.” – Dr. John Florek
After 33 years, Dr. John Florek, has made the final adjustment to his career-retirement.
As a chiropractor, Dr. Florek specialized in areas such as full spine adjusting and implementing spinal decompression treatment. It is the human interaction, though, that he says he will miss most. “I enjoyed hearing about my patients’ families: a daughter who made the cheerleading squad or a son who was doing well in baseball.”
Dr. Florek himself excelled in sports, earning a baseball scholarship to Eastern Michigan University after graduation from Flat Rock High School. He then followed in his father’s footsteps, studying at Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his doctorate from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa.
Dr. Florek practiced with his father briefly before opening his own practice in Trenton in 1973. He purchased a building on Telegraph Rd. in Brownstown Twp. ten years later.
Dr. Florek resides in Riverview with his wife, Barbara, a former Woodhaven elementary school teacher. He served on the Riverview school board and is a past president of the Riverview Football Booster Club. The couple has two grown sons, David, a logistics expert with Penske Automotive, and Brent, an engineer at Raines Engineering.
What does the future hold? “Lots of travel and golf,” Dr. Florek says. “Now that we are both retired, Barbara and I want to see parts of the country we never had time for.”
A trip down the east coast from Maine to Florida is in the planning stage, as well as Wyoming and Grand Teton. The couple will also have a chance to spend time with their grandchildren.
